For my first competitive visit I watched on from the south stand as the Blues recorded a 2-1 league win over Man City thanks to a Lee Bradbury brace, and my Pompey fandom had truly begun.

Following a childhood desire to one day become a football commentator I studied journalism at College and University before moving into the world of sports journalism, covering Pompey in many formats across the years including writing for the matchday programme during the Premiership era, writing a weekly column and running a Pompey fansite online. I also worked for the likes of CNN and the BBC, and covering the London 2012 Olympic games for the former remains my career highlight - so far!

My favourite Pompey players down the years have been Kevin Harper, Gary O’Neil, Linvoy Primus, Matty Taylor, Patrik Berger and Lomana LuaLua, and my most memorable moment was Taylor’s 88th-minute penalty against Sunderland in the 2006/07 season en route to survival. I’ve never been so nervous in all my life!

I was delighted and honoured to join the Pompey AD commentary team for the 2016/17 season, and have loved each and every game I have been part of so far. Commentating on Carl Baker’s strike against Carlisle on the opening day was a special moment, and thanks to AD commentary I now have a totally different appreciation for watching football. I am enjoying the chance to combine my passions for football, Pompey and commentary whilst also giving something back to the Pompey community.

About Dan: Born and raised in Portsmouth, I’ve been going to Fratton Park from around the age of 4 years old. Since my first ever game on the North Terrace I’ve been hooked. I’ve had a season ticket my entire adult life which despite commentating I still have & will continue to have just so I feel like I’m doing my bit for the Club.

About Mark:

I had a very fortunate introduction to football at Fratton Park, with my first game being Paul Walsh’s testimonial on the May Day Bank Holiday of 1998. This meant that Paul Merson, Paul Gascoigne and John Barnes were amongst the first footballers I ever watched out on the hallowed turf.

So naturally I went to University to study Sports Journalism in order to take my talent and passion further.

When the opportunity came up at Fratton Park, I couldn't pass it up and have loved every second of it so far! It's great commentating on the team you love so much, and it is nice to be able to give something back and volunteer my time for the good of the best fans in the country.

To be able to do it with such a great group of guys as well makes it even more incredible. I hope you enjoy the commentary we provide and “Play up Pompey!!”

Growing up, my Pompey hero’s have been Guy Whittingham, Paul Walsh, Robert Prosinecki, Steve Claridge, Paul Merson, Lassana Diarra and Ricardo Rocha.

I have been to 84 grounds to watch Pompey including Victoria Guimares & Wolfsburg and have been to 67 of the current 92 League Clubs which includes all current League Two venues.

I stumbled upon my niche for commentary whilst playing FIFA on the Playstation. I absolutely love the fact that I am helping people to enjoy their match day experience even more and am commentating on the Club that I adore. I also follow Wrexham and Rangers due to my family ties.

About James:

I absolutely love commentating for the DSA and Portsmouth FC, it is what I have wanted to do since I was very young. I found I had a bit of a nak for Commentary whilst playing the FIFA video games with my friends, they used to mute it so I could Commentate over the top.

The commentary starts approximately 10 minutes before kick-off and the service is available to home and away fans.

You can also watch and listen to highlights from the Audio Descriptive team from the

About Danny:

Having grown up in Southsea, I’m passionate about living on the South coast and everything about this great city. After graduating from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Sport Science I became a sports lecturer at a local college where I currently teach. I’m football mad and as a former season ticket holder, I’ve always supported the Blues.

My own playing commitments have limited my attendance at Fratton Park over the past couple of seasons, however I was there whenever I could make it. In addition to sport, I enjoy playing the piano and travelling with my new boss – the wife! I applied for this role as it’s a fantastic opportunity to volunteer and give something back to the club and the DSA, whilst also introducing me to the exciting world of football commentary.

To date I have commentated on numerous games and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute. It’s a lot harder than it seems, however I’d like to think I am steadily improving as each game passes. It’s been a great experience working with and learning from the likes of James and Dan Shaw, who are both excellent commentators and have been brilliant mentors. My aim is to keep improving and help raise the profile of this excellent service for supporters
